Bulletin Board

I finally finished one of Sadie's bulletin boards.

We took an acoustic ceiling tile (about $2 at Home Depot), painted it the same color brown as the shelves in her room, added some pink beaded fringe and pink ribbon to hang it, and...

Voila! Instant bulletin board.

Now if I can just get the other one started, hang the frames, find some curtain tie-backs, paint some flower pegs, build a window seat...Sadie's room will be finished.

(Please note: I am HORRIBLE at taking pictures of my projects--I am sure a new camera would fix this. If you'd like to contribute to the "buy Laura a new camera so we don't have to look at horrible pictures fund" please let me know.)

Greener Everyday

Between taking chickens to school for Sadie to show first grade and working on earning points for Mother of the Year, I haven't had time to go back out into the pasture to take pictures. I did take these from our house yesterday. The plan is to head to the pasture for tomorrow evening's adventure. But, we are getting greener.

Easter Morning Fog

We woke up Easter morning to fog. We were blessed this weekend with over an inch of rain. We are so thankful for the moisture.

More Snow Pictures

We had a little more snow overnight. By noon, there were already bare spots and now all that is left are the drifts. We had some really cool drifts in our pens and in the corner of our fence line. The kids had fun in the snow. You can see more pictures of them here. You can also click on these images to make them larger.

It is kind of strange to think we were experiencing a blizzard yesterday and the temps are in the high 40s today. The wind is still blowing, so I am sure there is a wind chill. We learned we are going to have to do some upgrading to the chicken house so we'll be ready if we ever have a "real" winter.
I'm sure this may be overkill on the pictures, but I really thought the drifts and their shapes were cool. I also liked Robby and T.S.'s shadows. Poor T.S. had serious mitten problems this morning.

WIND!

You know it is windy when:
  • After going outside you can "chew" your spit (and it is gritty).
  • Your ears are as dirty as your four-year old's ears.
  • The chickens are walking sideways. (I kept expecting to see one blow by Saturday)

It is dry and windy here. We have been fortunate so far to not have any fires in our area. The wind does hamper lots of things like playing outside and hanging laundry. I guess it's just part of living in the Panhandle.

Hooray for Rain!!

We were finally blessed with some rain last night. We got close to 3/4 of an inch. The bad news is that the wind is blowing hard today (20-30mph), so some of that moisture will be sucked up before long. A cat being chased by a tumbleweed is quite a site.

We were in desperate need of the rain. It was so dry that the electric fence wasn't "shocking" the cattle and they were just ducking under and going over it to get out. It isn't fun to put cattle in daily and spend time in the wind trying to figure out where they escaped or why the fence isn't working. (Not that I did that, mom got stuck doing that last night and today) Hopefully we received enough rain to keep the wheat alive and growing. It's funny to hope your road is muddy.
